The Australian Specialty Coffee Association (ASCA) Victoria Coffee Championships took place from 7 – 8 February at Griffiths Bros in the Melbourne suburb of Mulgrave.

Reigning Australian Barista Champion Craig Simon of Think Tank coffee took out the top spot of the state barista championships, with former Australian Barista Champion Matt Perger from St Ali coming in second place. Axil Coffee’s Matt Lewin finished third place.

Ben Morrow from Sensory Lab once again took out first place in the Victoria Latte Art Championships, followed by Caleb Cha of Cafetanics 367 who finished second and Tirta Rahmawati from Xocolatl café who came in third.

Micheal Sinclair from Small Batch took out the Brewers Cup competition, followed by Wenzheng (Sandy) Guo from Hawk and Hunter – using coffee from Five Senses – coming in second and Jamie Thompson from St Ali coming in third.

Hyunsuk (Harry) Ko from De Clieu coffee, who also works on the Korean version of Coffee T & I Magazine, won the Cup Tasting Championship, followed by barista champion Craig who came in second place. Last year’s Australian Cup Tasting Champion Byong-Woo (BW) Kang came in third place.

The winners from each competition will go on to compete in the ASCA Australian Coffee Championships, taking place from 13 – 15 March 2015 at the Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE2015).

Those who didn’t win will still get a second shot at the National Title, however will have to battle it out in the Open Heats round of the competition.
